Trying to keep my blog updated attempt 2

I've been really, really busy the last 6 months.. 'Why', I hear you wonder. Well, after 7 years I'm trying to finish my education as a teacher at a primary school. And for the first time in those 7 years it looks like I'm actually going to make it! I still have to work hard, because my deadline is the 28th of April. After that I have a quiet time (I hope) and in august I want to do another study: Dutch.
In the past year I worked for 5 months on a high school as a Dutch- and English teacher. And it was so much fun that I could do this for the rest of my life. So, 2 more years of study and then I'm there where I want to be!

Next week is my all time favorite holiday of the year: Carnaval! In Limburg, where I come from, is this a huge deal. You can dress up, drink loads of alcohol and act crazy without someone looking at you. (for the people who know me: I know I act crazy all year). I've been already to carnaval-events this year, but next week it's 8 days of party! So, I you miss me, you know what I'm doing!

After those mad, crazy days I'll post every crazy thing I've done, included pictures ;-) So, prepare for a long post!

How crazy were the weeks after Liege-Bastogne-Liege?
Luxembourg went mad. But they also did when Kim Kirchen had the yellow jersey last year and when Fränk won on the Alpe d’Huez. They’re getting used to the madness in Luxembourg (laughs). But to outnumber the craziness after Liege… That’s going to be a challenge! (laughs)

What did you do in the week after La Doyenne?‘Nothing special. The morning after Liege-Bastonge-Liege we scheduled a timetrail training.
Are you serious? You trained with a victory hangover?
Oh, yeah. I felt the hangover! (laughs). But the season isn’t over yet, so I have to train! After that I relaxed a little bit for a few weeks. Fränk and I recently bought a pond with a cabine. We went fishing there a lot those weeks. Just relaxing, away from the stress. We’ve made a lot of fun at the pond. Nobody knows where it is, except for Fränk and me , and our closest friends.

Can you go on the streets in Luxembourgh without being bothered?
Only if we wear our helmet. (laughs) Sometimes I think it’s annoying, I don’t like being stared at. If a child asks for an autograph, than theirs is no problem, but any further…no! Fortunately people from Luxembourgh are very calm. They aren’t starstruck!
Yesterday I was training an a boy yelled: You are my hero, Andy! I have to laugh about this, I didn’t saved any lives or something. Just won a couple of stages. What’s special about that?
I like that we inspire lot of children to start cycling. They all want to be Like Fränk and Andy. That’s nice. I’m very proud!

Do you know any pressure at all? You are relaxed all the time.
My motivation is the only pressure for me. I’ll cycle until I fall of my bike, because I want to win. But if I gave it all, I can never regret it. Can’t worry to much about it. If I gave it all in a lost stage, it only takes fifteen minutes before I can relax again.

That’s a good one. About L-B-L: Your brother was very emotional when you were on stage.
You should have seen me when Fränk won the Amstel. I cried like a baby. When Fränk wins, I’m so happy. Because I know what he did to get that form. When I win, I’m still happy, but not that intense when Fränk takes the flowers.
I heard that I looked not that impressed on the stage in Liege, but I think I couldn’t believe it at that point. Later that day, I drove home with Fränk and Kim Andersen and grabed my cell-phone for the first time that day. I had ninety textmessages to congratulate me, the phone couldn’t take more. At that point I saw what I did that day: I did something major! I started crying, couldn’t hold it back anymore. I thought about all the hard work I had to do for this. ‘Finally he realizes it’ Kim Andersen said.

Does Fränk has to train harder than you?
No, not at all! Nobody wants to believe it, but I’m less talented than Fränk. For example: at the training camp in the winter he sprints out of my wheel. At that moment we trained exactly the same.
That’s because he’s five years older.
Maybe. We ride both very good at a bike. Let’s keep it that way!

The youngest talent that we can admire on the bike these days, lives in Luxembourg and is called Andy Schleck.

It’s right before the Dauphiné Libéré. Andy Schleck just went to the Alps with his brother and sportdirectors Kim Anderson and Bjarne Riis. He is noticeable tired, even when we meet him in his homecountry Luxembourg, days after his training. Even the big talents are getting tired some day. “In five days we did six mountain stages”, he says. “We only did the climbs, the flats we skipped. After that we practised a couple of days on our time trail, with the specialists of the team. Bad memories I kept when we trained the team time trail. We cycled 115 km everything à bloc. It hurts, I can tell you that!”
The youngest of the Schleckbrothers still talks like a greenhorn. He is one of the most simple and approachable guys of the peleton. Not self-evident, when you won Liege-Bastonge-Liege at the age of 23. It’s only a mater of time when he adds another victory to his list. Maybe even this year at the Tour de France.

What did you learn from your training in the Alps?
Andy Schleck: “That the last week of the tour will be extremely heavy. The stage to Andorra, stage 7, will be the first major test. After that there’s no big challenge until the Alps. Likely the decision of the tour will take place here.
The big challenge at the start of the tour will be mentally. I’ve worked really hard at my timetrail, but I know: the prologue in Monaco is not my cup of tea. If it’s disappointing I don’t have to give up. The first week we cycle along the coast and with the side wind you can easily lose time. So it’s crucial that you have to be focussed all the time.”

What will be a good result for you in Monaco?“I would be happy when I can be with the first 15. It’s ambitious, but possible, because what I did last year in the time trail wasn’t that bad. At the first timetrail I finished 19th, and only lost a minute on Cadel Evans and Denis Menchov. At the last timetrail I wasn’t that good. But I hadn’t anything to lose or win at that moment. And at the end of the tour, you don’t want to hurt yourself anymore, or it has to be necessary. You only think about the finish, believe me (laughs).”

Will the timetrail always be your weakest link?“My body isn’t build on timetrailling, but I don’t let this encourage me. My legs fit twice in Alberto Contador’s, so this is a disadvantage for me. But look at Andreas Klöden, he had the same physique build as me, and on the timetrailbike he’s a beast! I think for me it’s mostly mentally.
I’ve done everything to improve my timetrailling. Powertraining, SRM-tests, special trainings with Fabian Cancellara … In the winter I trained three times a week at my timetrailling. I’ve improved technically.”

Is there a cyclist, apart from Fabian Cancellara, who likes to do a teamtimetrail?
“I doubt it! I hate a teamtimetrail. A solo timetrail is also hard, but if it doesn’t work out you can always slow down. This doesn’t work in the team. You can let the team go and stay behind, this isn’t an option for me, or you can die on your bike. A teamtimetrail is the hardest discipline in cycling!”

Two girls @ The Amstel...

We (Eva and Anke) went to the Amstel, and we tried to shoot a vid. There isn't much to see in the vid, but the comments we give are very funny! They are in Limburgs, so I don't think you will understand. I'll translate it a little bit:

- First I say that they don't cycle very fast.. (which was true, the leadinggroup had 13 minutes!)
- As the main bunch passes I'm a little bit in a panic, 'cause I missed Fränk and Andy again! (we missed them at the start in Maastricht also!)
- Eva didn't see them either!
- I'm afraid that they'd abbandonned..
- We missed the teamcar (allready past)
- I wanted to go to my grandpa, who's a big cycling-fan and get some information..

Enjoy it! The people who were standing next to us, looked really amused by us.. Yeah, well... We're crazy!! ;-)

Like you can see in the picture, I'm losing myself completely. I can't sleep at night anymore.. 'Why?' I hear you ask, well several reasons:

- Ofcourse the Amstel crosses my mind; What should I wear? Where can I park my car in Maastricht? Should I behave normally or will I lose my mind..
- Another reason is that I go to my bed, too late! I'm 'a little bit' of a partygirl, and sometimes I forget track of time! Sunday I slept at 5.30 in the morning, while I had to get up at 10 (not really clever)
- I have a jobinterview on friday..
- Some guys just keep texting me in the middle of the night..

I'm planning my Amstel-trip with my grandfather, he is a really cyclingfan and know all the right spots to watch the race..

What they did yesterday.....

In the presence of Fränk and Andy, our General Assembly passed on in an excellent mood. They fulfilled the requests of the some 230 supporters, i.e. more than a quarter of the logged members in 2007 who came to meet them, with kind patience.
Aurélie, Corine et Michel Bourgeois came from some 400 kilometers away to meet Fränk and Andy. They especially came from Semur en Auxois near Dijon in Burgundy to drive back home after the meeting.
Also present was Mrs Maggy Nagel, the Mayor of Mondorf les Bains, home town of the Schleck Brothers, as well as the two MoP's, Mr. Carlo Wagner former Minister of Health and Social Security and Mr. Henri Kox.
To thank Fränk and Andy for the strong emotions and pleasure called forth by their excellent performances during the 2008 season, two SRM indoor trainers had been offered to them as a by the Fan Club.
Finally a voluntary contribution of € 5555 has been made to TELEVIE, an association raising funds for the scientific research against cancer. This contribution consists partly from the sales of the "Schleck Experience 2007" DVD and a supplement of €2996 added upon decision of the Fan Club Board.

Saxo Bank's Riis upbeat going into 2009 racing season

Living up to the success of last season will be challenging for Saxo Bank, formerly CSC, but team boss Bjarne Riis is cautiously optimistic despite the departure of reigning Tour de France champ Carlos Sastre.
Seven riders followed Sastre out the door from the triumphant 2008 lineup, including retired pros Bobby Julich, Michael Blaudzun and Brad McGee and workhorses Iñigo Cuesta, Volodymir Gustov and Allen Johansen.
Instead of searching out a big star to replace Sastre, Riis has bolstered his 2009 squad with a slate of younger riders to reinforce the already-sturdy foundation that includes classics strongman Fabian Cancellara, the Schleck brothers and such reliable performers as Jens Voigt, Stuart O’Grady and Kurt-Asle Arvesen.
“We have a lot to live up to after this year, but when I consider the riders on our team, there’s no reason whatsoever why we shouldn’t be able to do it again — or maybe even better,” Riis said on the team’s web page. “Obviously, we’re in the middle of a major generational change, but I can easily imagine some of the young riders competing for some victories here and there.”
“Bjarne’s Army” enjoyed its most successful season in 2008, with Sastre taking the team’s first Tour victory in a banner year that saw 14 of 27 riders win than 50 races, including Milan-San Remo and stages in all three grand tours.
Sastre’s reliability will certainly be missed along, with the prestige that comes with riding the season as the defending Tour champion. The Spanish climber made an acrimonious departure from his longtime home at CSC to join start-up Cervelo.

Filling the gap left by Sastre will be the Schleck brothers, with Andy expected to step up to contend outright for the spoils at the Tour while Fränk — cleared last month by Luxembourg officials for links to the Operación Puerto doping scandal — should once again tackle the Ardennes classics and the Tour.
Cancellara is expected to continue to be a major player in the classics as well as in time trials. The big Swiss time machine is taking special aim at the Tour of Flanders while young gun Matti Breschel (winner of five races in a breakout 2008 season) and 2007 Paris-Roubaix winner Stuart O’Grady will be ready for the cobblestones.
Riis, known for his eye for promising talent, has signed highly touted British rider Jonathan Bellis as well as Michael Morkov and Alex Rasmussen, two trackies from the silver-medal-winning individual pursuit team in Beijing.
The return of popular Dane Frank Høj, who rode with CSC in 2004, will help keep the team in a light-hearted mood as it rides into what Riis hopes will be a fast start to the 2009 season.
Jason McCartney, back for his second season with Riis, remains the team’s lone American following the retirement of Julich.
“Of course, we need to be realistic and respect the fact that the other teams have a lot to offer as well, but I believe we have a great season ahead of us. And I wouldn’t be surprised if we start winning races already from the beginning,” Riis said. “Our guys are really working hard at the moment and it seems like they want to start the season with a bang. Last year we kicked off with a bang as well so if the riders have cranked up their training efforts even further over the winter it can only mean a great start to 2009.”
After wrapping up a training camp on Mallorca, the team will begin its racing calendar at the Tour Down Under and the Tour de San Luis, where sprinter JJ Haedo won two stages last year.
Riis also downplayed the loss of co-sponsor IT Factory. Authorities in California arrested Stein Bagger, the managing director of the Danish company, in December. The company was introduced as a co-sponsor during the 2008 world road cycling championships.
“I get the feeling that we’re all determined to prove that we have no intentions of turning down our ambitions because of the bad news regarding IT-Factory,” Riis continued.

Matti Breschel talks about the laughs he had with Andy in the Giro 2007:

”The atmosphere is really good, but we're all taking it easy and tell a lot of yarns. And today, especially, there was a lot to talk about, 'cause Andy actually managed to lose one of his shoes during the stage,” Matti Breschel says.

”He took of the shoe, because there was a stone in it, and then he started to joke about, what would happen, if he dropped it. And while he was joking about that, he drops the shoe. I immediately brake and have to go back to find his shoe, which is handed to me by the Quick Step's director sportif, but Andy doesn't see that and keeps on riding like hell, looking for his shoe. Then I had to go pull him back, while both of us had laughed about what had happened,” Matti Breschel says, and you can almost hear him shaking his head, as he states ”Only Andy can do such a thing.”

Matti Breschel has forgiven the rider from Luxembourg that little incident, though. ”He's a cluterer, never seems to be in control of anything. But he ride a bike, I'll give that. Plus he's a really nice guy. We're really good friends,” Matti Breschel points out.

First of all I would like to wish everybody a happy newyear! We all know what the goals are for 2009 with cycling, but I personally have some goals too.. I have to share them with you, because otherwise I'll never reach them (I'm very chaotic)

1. I hope to finish my study as a teacher in april or may (or maybe in june/july)

2. Lose weight (let me be 55 kg on 31-12-2009, please)

3. Get a job as a teacher on a high school

4. Find a place to live on my own

5. Chear for team Saxo Bank at the Amstel Gold and the Tour

6. Finally find a boyfriend (I'm single for 6 years now..)

Ambitious Andy Schleck concentrates at the Tour the France

Andy Schleck confessed only one month ago that he doesn't start at the Giro. The cyclist from Saxo Bank says in an interview with the Spanish newspaper Marca that he'll put everything on the upcoming Tour the France. The previous season I have seen that my third week at the Tour was the best. I lost my overall standing at the Hautacam, but in the last week I made it clear that I can cope with the best cyclists. The yellow yearsey is within my range, says the young Luxemburger. The younger one of the Schlecks believes that he has a good preparation for the Tour: We have already been in training and I have a good feeling. In the upcoming Tour I'll be a lot stronger. We're busy to improve on my time-trails and in the next months I'll train in the mountains together with some of my teammates, so that I can't be surprised in the Tour. Concerning the competition Schleck is clear: Of course Alberto Contador is the absolute favourite. But I have proved that I can beat him. So why not the next Tour?

During a long training in Lanzarote observes Theo Bos' new friend Lars Boom it several times. "Unbelievable how beautiful Theo sits on his bike, you can't see he was a trackrider anymore. "

For tree weeks Bos is on trainingscamp to the vulcany sland. The idea came from his manager Orlando van den Bosch, who pointed out that Lars Boom would train for two weeks also on Lanzarote. The two super champions (together they won 10 worldchampionships) had spoken already, but not more than casual talk. Now the trackcyclist (Bos) and the cyclocrosser (Boom) are concentrating on the roadraces in 2009, the combination was obviously. The two cyclist get on really well, despite the different backgrounds.

'Routinier' Boom is very optimistic about the new sprinter. "His sprint on the road is unique. Ofcourse it's difficult to say how Theo will manage in a roadrace, but I'm confident that he is going to win a lot of sprints!"

Luxembourg Anti-Doping Agency clears Fränk Schleck for further involvement in Spanish case.

Based on the evidence and further investigations made by the Luxembourg Anti-Doping Agency it was decided not to open a disciplinary case against Fränk Schleck and the agency has decided to close the case.“First of all, I'm happy that I had to chance to prove that I was innocent. I have a lot of respect for the work the Luxembourg Anti-Doping Agency had to do and I have been totally available for all their inquiries. Throughout the whole process, I have been confident that I would come out good because I have a completely clear conscience. Now, I can focus on the new season and I'm looking forward to coming back strong”, says Fränk Schleck.

“We are certainly very happy that the explanation that Fränk Schleck has given us, the press and our sponsors was now confirmed by the Luxembourg Anti-Doping Agency as true. It was vital to us that Fränk had not been involved in the wrongdoings concerning the case in Spain and we feel that the confidence that we have in Fränk has been rewarded. I'm sure that this has been quite a stressful time for him, but at the same time it will give him strength and motivation to be even better next season”, says Bjarne Riis and states that the team will continue to do its utmost in the fight against doping.“All of our riders are ambassadors of a clean sport and with our groundbreaking, independent anti-doping program we can rule out any wrongdoing going on unnoticed and we take sincere comfort in that. The team has gone to great lengths in the fight against doping and we will continue to make our mark here along with our efforts on the roads”, adds Riis.

'Try before you die' at the Tour de France

Ofcourse you already know that we dutchpeople are a little bit crazy. We prove this in a tv-show that's called 'Try before you die'. The assignments they have to take are really weird, like posing in the playgirl, working at 'de wallen', ect. They also had two assignments at the tour last year, the vid's are in dutch, but they show how hard it is to ride the TDF!

KOPENHAGEN (ANP) - De Deense wielerploeg Saxo Bank van teammanager Bjarne Riis is zijn co-sponsor kwijt. Het bedrijf IT Factory werd maandag failliet verklaard.
De directeur van IT Factory, dat jaarlijks ongeveer 5 miljoen euro gereserveerd had voor de wielerploeg, is gevlucht naar Dubai. Hij zou 67 miljoen euro hebben verduisterd.
Saxo Bank heeft de ProTour-licentie overgenomen van computerconcern CSC, dat zijn sponsorschap dit jaar beëindigde. Carlos Sastre won dit jaar voor de ploeg de Ronde van Frankrijk. De Spanjaard koerst volgend seizoen voor de nieuwe ploeg Cervélo.
Riis kondigde maandag aan dat hij op zoek gaat naar een nieuwe sponsor. ,,We willen de beste wielerploeg van de wereld zijn. Die amitie is niet veranderd.''

Yesterday, when I was distracted by cycling, I watched the final 10km of the stage to Prato Nevoso. It looked like I'd never seen the stage before, I wanted to help them cycling the mountain :-p

It's a very cold afternoon in Obbicht, Limburg, the Netherlands. I'm supposed to make my homework, but those very cute cyclists are distracting me.. And than it hit me, why don't I make a blog? Cycling is a big thing in Holland, and the sport is always in the news. I can post the news here so I don't have to bother Maggie anymore ;-)

It's a pitty that the 2008 cyclingseason is over, but than we can concentrate on other great sports! Like speedskating, or am I the only one who likes speedskating? And when speedskating is over, the cyclingseason begins again... Cycling and speedskating a very good combination I think! And we have some cute skaters, pay attention...

He's world champion, european champion an dutch champion in speedskating. But he also is a very good cyclist, he finished in 2004 second in the dutch time trail championship just behind Robert Gesink! I'm talking about Sven Kramer!!
